Which Puget Sound Marine Forecast Should Kitsap Boaters Read?

For a Kitsap boating plan, identify the waters along the entire route before opening a forecast. Save the official product, its issue time and the period you need; a city weather summary does not describe every waterway on the trip.

The NWS Seattle marine-zone page links forecasts for areas including Admiralty Inlet (PZZ134) and Puget Sound and Hood Canal (PZZ135). Use the official map to establish which zones the actual track crosses rather than choosing a familiar name.

What belongs in the forecast record?

A saved forecast can become old. Keep the retrieval time separate from the product’s issue time and refresh the official information before departure. Record an unavailable product as a gap, not as evidence that conditions are favorable.

Keep tides and currents in their own rows

NOAA Tides and Currents is the official starting point for the relevant station and product. Record the station, product type, date, time zone and units. Do not transfer a time from a different station or confuse a tide prediction with a current prediction.

A route with two forecast areas

In a hypothetical plan that crosses a zone boundary, give each zone its own row and compare the forecast periods with both legs of the trip. Add the relevant tide or current products separately. A dockside observation remains an observation; it should not be relabeled as the regional forecast.

Review the record with a competent skipper using appropriate charts, instructions and current official information. The record helps show what was checked and what remains unresolved. It is not navigation instruction, a complete departure checklist or a declaration that a vessel, crew or route is safe.
